THE
HABIT (2023)
The Habit is a choreographic work loosely inspired by Carl Theodor Dreyer’s film Ordet (1955). While non-narrative in form, the piece engages with Ordet's central themes of faith, crisis, and coexistence — interpreted not through a religious lens, but as broader reflections on belief, doubt, and communal tension.
Created for the Bayerisches Staatsballett — a large, hierarchical ballet institution — the work focuses on the negotiation between individual artistic expression and collective structure. The choreography explores how personal agency and communal form can coexist within rigid systems, with the creative process itself shaped by the compromises and dynamics inherent in such environments.
